The thread will remained "stickied" at the top of this forum. I encourage you all to continue to offer your condolences, thoughts, KIND words and such to Zehly and to others who have suffered due to the hurricane. Please do not make light of this situation for, while it may not personally affect you, it has affected others and they need peace not angst.

Initial reports on CNN say around a thousand people could be lost from this.... Tragedies like this should be used to strengthen the human race and keep things in perspective. Best wishes to all with family/friends in Lou. and Miss.

Sorry for your loss, and I know how you feel. I used to live in Louisiana and a good few of my friends lived in New Orleans. I've attempted to contact them, a couple I know made it out safely. The rest I'm not sure about, and I probably won't know for a long, long time.

Sorry for your loss zehly. The last community I've been on got some death as well, so I know what you must feel right now...

But in my belief, Eileen still lives, just not in the way we all think. As long as someone like you will remember her, she will still live in your hearts

You know what, somehow I'd like to see those disasters happens more often in this world. Just to see the human race actually put their difference away and work together... *scheme plot for world peace*

I cannot imagine how you feel right now and shall not pretend to. My heartfelt regrets go out to you. I thought this may be relevant. Its a passage from the Prophet by Kalil Gibran.

You would know the secret of Death.
But how shall you find it unless you seek it in the heart of life?
The owl whose night bound eyes are blind unto the day cannot unveil the mystery of light.
If you would indeed behold the spirit of Death, open your heart wide unto the body of life.

Live life! Eileen can still be your saviour.

I'm so sorry for everyone and everything that was lost. I was not personally affected (a family member was away from their Alabama home when it hit, and it turns out the house was spared), but I was emotionally affected enough, Zehly, to post a plea on our guild forum for donations to the Red Cross.

http://theblackhandgang.topgaming.or...e-read-94.html

Anyway, those who feel inclined please http://www.redcross.org/

My wife told me about your post and I read it as soon as I got home from work.
Oh! I'm so very sorry for your loss!

My wife then made a donation to the Red Cross and I followed suit.
I've contacted my neighborhood association to coordinate even more donations to the Red Cross and I plan on asking my company to donate as well.
If at all possible, we would like to do all of this for those who remain, In loving memory of Eileen.

Hope is the thing with feathers
that perches in the soul
and sings the tune without the words
and Never stops, at all!

And sweetest in the gale is heard
and sore must be the storm
that could abash the little bird
that kept so many warm.

I've heard it in the chilliest lands
and on the strangest sea,
Yet never in extremity,
it asked a crumb of me.
~Emily Dickenson

May the sun shine brightly on your broken heart and may the little bird sing loud and unabashed from whatever comfort may find you!

Update
Earlier this morning I recieved a phone call from Eileens dad. He told me that if Eileen were alive, she would want me to be strong for her. I will be strong. I won't give into the ever-so-present temptation of giving up... no matter how much I want to, I cannot.

I also was informed that Eileen died with a stuffed animal in her arms. A penguin that I made for her, embossed with the words "I love you" on it. I love penguins. So did she.

He told me that he thought the last thing that went through her mind would have been me. I feel somewhat selfish for that, considering she had family, too.

What do I do with the stuffed penguin? Do I keep it, or bury it with her? Sometimes, when I think about burial, I wish I could crawl in with her and sleep forever.. We used to sleep together all the time when I came over. Nothing could ever comfort me more than being next to the warm body of the person I still love so much. But I don't think I can do that.

What should I do with this stuffed bear? What do I do with the jewelry I gave her. I'm so confused and dazed. But, I'm hanging on there.

To Those of You Who Have Lost Loved Ones
Though we don't know each other, I have come to find out that we are a family, tied only by a common denominator of our losses. I share in your misery...

*can't think anymore*

Yours,
zehly

That's a tough one, zehly.

While I suggest that you keep mementos of Eileen, I don't think you should overdo it. It may be a good idea to put the stuffed animal and perhaps a photograph of the both of you in a nice frame out in the open to honor her memory.

Keeping a reminder of Eileen around may be preferable than something that you might randomly dig up that will hit you, emotionally, like a ton of bricks.

Also remember that the size and value of jewelery may make it more prone to being lost or stolen, which could be devastating.

I would keep the Penguin. You'd be surprised how much comfort it might bring. Keep it, remember her and all the good times you guys had.

My condolences, I can't imagine how hard it is for you right now. Take everything day by day, hour by hour, just keep moving forward.

I would keep the Penguin too, but don't let it remind you of a loss of someone important, but remember it as something that connected you to someone you love.

I know its cliche, but time heals most wounds.

I believe you should hang on to the penguin. In time, it will act as a reminder of the love you and Eileen had.

My condolences for your loss. Don't misunderstand me, but in your position I wouldn't post here. The community is mature and nice, as you can see from the kind replies, but I don't think you should look for warmth on the internet. Apart from being sorry and encourage you not to let yourself go we can do nothing, we can't even give you a hug!

Stick to the people you love in real life, they'll be close to you and eventually time will heal your wound. Step out of this world of anonymity for a bit, in my opinion the internet is not serious enough yet for some issues.

Take care.

I will not even try to comprehend how you are feeling, it must be hurt beyond all belief but there are people here who will think of you, and wish you well, and be here if you need them.

Deepest sympathies to you and anyone who was affected. Just can't even begin to think...
